Survey Details 英文介绍:
Hello! My name is Ana Wang, and I am part of a developmental psychology and education research team from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and the University of Maryland, College Park. Our team is led by Asian American professors, Drs. Charissa Cheah and Cixin Wang. As a Chinese American organization in the community, we are excited to tell you about our important project on Asian American families. (Flyers attached)
Since the COVID-19 outbreak, many Asian American families have faced various challenges and experienced racial discrimination, which has disrupted teens' and parents' mental health and adjustment. At the same time, many families have also had some positive experiences or found new strengths. However, our challenges and experiences are often overlooked and not well-understood.
Our research team has been actively working to understand families’ unique experiences and ultimately promote Asian American teens and their families’ resilience and success through our research. From our previous study with families like the ones you work with, we have shared our findings through numerous publications and presentations, which have also influenced public policies for Asian American families.
We are continuing our research by specifically involving Chinese, Filipino, and Korean families in the United States so we can understand families’ unique experiences, challenges, and strengths, during this difficult time.
You, your voice, and your lived experiences matter, and we need you and your family’s help!
We are asking for your help to reach families and inform them about this important opportunity! If you could forward this information about our study to your community members, we would be most appreciative.
Who Can Join?
In order to participate in the study, both parents have to be ethnically Chinese, or both ethnically Korean, or both ethnically Filipino, with a 12- to 17-year-old child. Participating families must reside in either Washington D.C, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, New York, or Pennsylvania.
What Will Families Do?
We invite parents and teens to take an online survey and share their experiences. After 12 months, we will ask you to fill out a survey again.
How do we thank you for your participation?
Parents will receive $20 and teens will receive $15 for completing the first surveys, and parents will receive $25 and teens will receive $20 for completing the second surveys 12 months later. Moreover, all participants will be entered into a lucky draw to win cash prizes of $20, $50, or $100 after completing each survey.
Our research team will also provide families with a summary of what we have discovered from this research, our previous findings, and some resources to help families and teens to cope more effectively.
Our study findings can help researchers and other professionals to develop prevention and intervention plans for Asian American families.
We can also send your organization these resources.
You can help us. And you can help your community!
If you have any questions, please contact: ProjectARISE1@gmail.com or call:(240)257-2523
We would be really grateful if you could distribute the attached flyers to the Chinese/Asian American families and encourage them to participate in this important research project.
Thank you for your time and consideration. We hope you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy. We look forward to connecting with each of you soon.
Best regards,
Drs. Charissa S. L. Cheah, Cixin Wang, and the research team
