2024 Chinese American Convention News Bulletin #3 A 3K Walk of Civil Rights for All on June 30th UCA is working with other national civil rights organizations to organize a 3K Walk on the National Mall to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, with a rally in front of the majestic Lincoln Memorial on the morning of Sunday, June 30th. Note: in requesting permit wiht the Park Services It will be an exciting event as the finale for our 2024 Chinese American Convention, themed "Embracing The Civil Rights Movement of Our Time." Enacted on July 2, 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed into law an act that would change the dynamic of America forever. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 ended legal segregation in public places and made discrimination illegal. While progress has been made, there is still work to be done. Let us take this unique opportunity to commemorate the 60th anniversary of our civil rights movement. Please ensure your return travel arrangements are scheduled for Sunday afternoon, June 30th (after 3pm, preferably.). We recommend preparing a pair of comfortable shoes suitable for this event. Note: we are requesting permit with the D.C. Park Services. Scholarship Opportunity for Youth Conference Registration We encourage youth to participate in the 2024 National Youth Conference. UCA will provide 50 scholarships of $100 each to support students who wish to attend the conference and to showcase youth organizations and projects. The $100 scholarships will be awarded through a quick qualification process, and on a first-come, first-served basis. It can be used to reduce the early bird registration fee from $275 to $175 (must register by May 31) or from $325 to $225 after May 31. The UCA Convention will begin on Thursday, June 27, 2024,, with a visit to the United States Capitol to meet with members of Congress. Please indicate your interest in this event during the registration. ●     The Congressional Day of the Convention will begin with a briefing and orientation meeting from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Capital Hill, followed by an afternoon of meetings with U.S. legislators and their staff from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.. ●     During the meetings, you will have an opportunity to engage in dialogue and share perspectives on social and political issues affecting API community. ●     You will also be invited to a Congressional Reception at the Capitol in the evening from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., hosted by UCA & APAPA, with senior policymakers and community leaders. ●     Virtual training sessions will be available (date to be decided).
