Dear Friends, We need your help. Politicians in Washington are trying to ram through the reauthorization of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).   Under the cover of FISA Section 702, the federal government has spent years surveilling the email data, phone records, and text messages of Asian Americans without obtaining a warrant first.    This is a blatant violation of our privacy rights and civil liberties — and if congressional leadership is successful in reauthorizing Section 702 as part of the NDAA — it could lead to racial profiling and discrimination of communities of color across the United States.    Yesterday afternoon, our coalition — and 90+ civil rights and racial justice organizations — sent a letter to the U.S. Congress, calling on them to oppose the reauthorization of this dangerous policy without comprehensive reforms. But we can’t get the message out without your help.    With congressional leadership pushing to reauthorize Section 702 without a full debate, we’re counting on you to contact your representative — and tell them to oppose the straight reauthorization of Section 702 and support the Government Surveillance Reform Act (GSRA).   The Government Surveillance Reform Act (GSRA) is a bill that would end warrantless surveillance on everyday Americans and increase government oversight to keep our private communications private. It’s also our best chance to reform Section 702.
