Invited Speakers for the UCA 2022 Youth Convention

Join us to meet the outstanding youth leaders and speakers of the Youth Convention

Yuh-Line Niou has served as a member of the New York State Assembly for the 65th district in lower Manhanttan since 2016. Yuh-Line is the first Asian-American elected to the State Assembly for this district. Yuh-Line has spent her career working on legislative and advocacy campaigns starting in college. She has become a powerful progressive leader for low-income, immigrant, and working families. Her work has become a watershed for young people — especially women, the LGBTQ+, the AAPI community, and people of color — to become civically engaged and to run for office to build a government that works for the people. She is a candidate for Congress in New York's newly redrawn 10th congressional district in 2022. Yuh-Line is of Taiwanese heritage.

Stephanie Hu, an incoming freshman at Harvard University, is the Founder and Executive Director of Dear Asian Youth and the Co-Founder of CUSD Against Racism. Her identity as a Chinese American has pushed her to passionately uplift marginalized voices into intersectional activism. Stephanie's organization, Dear Asian Youth, currently has over 180 chapters around the world, 400 works of literature, and 110,000 social media followers. Stephanie is also the Co-Executive Director of the Women of Color Conference, which united 4,850+ girls of color in engaging in a two day virtual conference with career-oriented panels from 31 renowned speakers.

Huiwen Chen is a rising sophomore at Harvard University. She is the Founder and Executive Director at Detester Magazine, a youth nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating for socio-political issues and promoting racial solidarity among POC youth. Huiwen is also passionate about the social impact of technology and addressing racial disparities in health care. Through her advocacy work, Huiwen hopes to contribute to a more inclusive and diverse society.

Christina Lu, the Hero in Philadelphia Metro attack and an advocate for Bystander Intervention. She is a rising freshman at U Penn. Last November, she protected a group of boys from racially motivated attacks. While others decided to be a passive bystander, Christina instinctively stood up against the bullying and violence. After the incident, she has repeatedly used her voice to inspire the public to stand up and speak out. She hopes to implement her Bystander Intervention program to help everyone be more aware of their surroundings.

Dear UCA National Youth Convention Attendees and Parents,

We are conducting this survey to explore how our youth is doing today and assess their views across multiple topics.

UCA will share the survey results during UCA’s Chinese American Convention and National Youth Convention, to be held from July 14 to July 16 in Washington, DC. UCA will then share it with the general public.

Since there is no large scale multi-themed and general purpose survey targeting Chinese American youth, the significance of this survey is self-evident. We hope to get all the help from our youth, parents, educators and community leaders so that we can reach a minimum of 1,000 respondents in the coming weeks.

Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey.

Max age limit: 30 yrs old

Since this survey is intended to learn about youth, we kindly ask that participants only fill out this survey if they are between 13 - 30 yrs old. We hope you will share it with your children between 12 and 30 year old, and encourage them to complete the survey as soon as they can.
